Abstract

The history of our mammalian fauna, which has now for many years, thanks to the work of Japetus Steenstrup in particular, been known in its rough outlines, has in course of time been largely supplemented by discoveries made during digging of marl pits, cutting of peat, and investigations of kitchen middens and ancient tumuli, of geologically interesting deposits and the like.
