Abstract

The evidence relating to the Neoglacial history of the western sector of the Greenland lee Sheet is critically examined. It is concluded that glacierisation began to increase about 3000-3500 B.P. from a significantiy smaller extent than at present, but that in general this does not appear to have reached its maximum until the recent post-1000 B. P. advances. What little reliable evidence there is of greater early Neoglacial events ean be considered to represent local, anomalous developments. It is emphasised that this model should be regarded as a working hypothesis which will be modified by future work.
