During the latter half of the 1979 field season, geological reconnaissance was undertaken in eastern North Greenland (fig. 30), in the foreland to the Caledonian mountain chain, as a preliminary to mapping programmes planned for 1980. The principal aim of the reconnaissance was to study a cross-section from Danmark Fjord to Romer Sø (fig. 30) in Kronprins Christian Land and to establish a local stratigraphy suitable for map compilation. In addition, the northern part of Valdemar Gliiekstadt Land (fig. 30) was visited to investigate reports of Ordovician and Silurian strata in an area whieh preliminary mapping during 1978 had indicated as earliest Cambrian and Precambrian.
