In the spring of 1990 the Greenland Home Rule administration initiated a project to evaluate the potential for ornamental stones in West and South Greenland, with support from the Geological Survey of Greenland (GGU). The project was established in view of an interesting new development of the international ornamental stone market which might be exploited to diversify the economy and provide new job opportunities in Greenland.
